Star Wars fans – want to rent Star Wars movies to watch before Rogue One hits the theater on December 17th? Amazon no longer offers the option to rent any of the Star Wars movies. You have buy a digital copy of the movies – which are $19.99 each. When Amazon had the rent option is was $4.99 for a day. But we found a way to watch the movies for just $1 a night! Or, $2 for 24 hours in HD.
This is a 100% legal, no downloads, way to stream all the Star Wars episodes for CHEAP. If you plan on watching a movie less than 20 times, this is the way to go.
In the words of Poe Dameron – we’re going to do this!
Stream Star Wars Episodes 1-7 Full Movies for $1
If you find a free version of The Force Awakens or any other Star Wars movie, watch out. Besides risking getting a virus or having to deal with tons of ads, it’s against the law. “Unless your are viewing a site that has been approved by the copyright holder, yes, it is a crime for which you can potentially be prosecuted (as can the sites that illegal stream them). When the FBI shuts down such a site, they may sometimes locate your contact information and IP address on the website.”
Here’s what you can do to watch the Star Wars movies now for less: VidAngel. VidAngel legally streams Star Wars movies online for $1/night (HD is $2). Is this legit you might ask. USAToday did a story on them because they offered all of the older Star Wars episodes to watch online for less than anyone else.
Here’s How it Works:
Here are the simple steps – you can watch your movies within minutes.
- Click to go directly to The Force Awakens or another Star Wars Movie. Choose regular or HD. Select any filters.
- Create an account.
- Deposit $20 into your account. THIS IS THE CONFUSING PART. See below.
- Watch the movie and after or within 24 hours. Get $19 back into your account. For HD you’ll get $18 back.
- Withdraw the rest or watch more movies – they have a ton to choose from.
Why pay $20, I thought you said it was $1/night? VidAngel is a filtering site for family friendly movies (like Clear Play). The ONLY way they can legally do that is that you must BUY THEN RETURN the movie. You watch it, it automatically returns itself (or after 24 hours) and you get $19 back into your account. At that point you can watch the next Star Wars movie or buy the rights for the full $20.
The box will be checked to “automatically return this movie after I’m done watching it”. That’s what they call a “sellback”. No need to remember to return it. No late fees. No waiting in lines. Even the library has fees and you have to drive to return your movie. It’s worth putting up with some of the quirky parts for this benefit.
If you kept it for 24 hours or less ($1) then you’ll get $19 credit back into your account! You can then use that credit to watch more movies. You can keep any copy (even edited) and it will cost the full $20. At any time you can also choose to get any remaining money returned to you.
Stream/Rent Star Wars Movies Online
It’s a little tricky to find them on the VidAngel site, so we created a list of all the Star Wars movies available on VidAngel, by release date:
1977: Episode IV: A New Hope
1980: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
1983: Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi
1999: Episode I: The Phantom Menace
2002: Episode II: Attack Of The Clones
2005: Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
2015: Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Here’s a screenshot. Don’t be fooled though, Rogue One isn’t available (yet). You can request it – but they will get it as soon as possible – usually before Redbox.
Here’s what a happy customer said about VidAngel:
Favorite streaming service for our family by Brittmae
We love vidangel. We have been “purchasing” and selling back videos just about every week for the last 3 months and have had no problems. We’ve been able to watch movies not available on Netflix or iTunes (like the original Star Wars– the filters that block the new Lucas-cgi content are hilarious), and we’ve been able to watch some never-before-seen movies now that we can filter the content to our preferences. A must app for any family movie nights — especially when there are only a few words or scenes you would rather not view with young children (or for us either). Thanks for a great product vidangel.
